(Austin, TX) – Mockingbird Domestics and Lick Honest Ice Creams—two Austin businesses committed to celebrating the best of Texas—are partnering together on a co-branded housewares collection that includes ice cream spoons and an ice cream bowl designed by local makers. They are launching the collaboration with an intimate Ice Cream Sauces Workshop that includes Genius Gin cocktails on October 17 at 2 pm, as well as an ice cream social open to the public from 3 pm until supplies last.

Laura Daly of Mockingbird Domestics and Anthony Sobotik and Chad Palmatier of Lick Honest Ice Creams co-designed and commissioned a limited edition of ice cream bowls ($24) designed exclusively by Lindsey Wohlgemuth of Foxwares Ceramics and ice cream spoons ($8) made of Texas woods designed by Dave Massman that will be available to purchase at both Mockingbird Domestics and at Lick Honest Ice Creams shops and the businesses’ respective online shops on October 17. These will be the first pieces in a collaborative line of co-branded products and shop pieces the two businesses will be producing together.

“Mockingbird Domestics and Lick Ice Cream’s has a deeply-rooted friendship that goes back to the openings of each other’s ventures,” says Daly. “Anthony and I came together to celebrate our growth and friendship. With both businesses valuing the richness of our local resources, we challenged ourselves to create an event that brings together highly skilled artisans. Combining ice cream, ceramics, wood, gin and the collaborative process, the workshop and resulting products are a perfect culmination celebrating some of the best of Austin.”

Sobotik, co-owner and chef of Lick Honest Ice Creams, will lead an intimate, hands-on Ice Cream Sauces Workshop ($90) on how to make delicious sauces that can be used on ice creams or used as condiments on meats, salads and other foods from seasonal fruits and herbs. Mike Groener of Genius Gin will be on site demonstrating how to make custom cocktails using the sauces, as well as serving them to participants. The workshop fee includes one of Massman’s wooden spoons and Wohlgemuth’s ice cream bowls, a pint of Lick Honest Ice Creams and recipe cards on how to recreate the sauces. Those interested in the 75-minutes workshop can sign up on Mockingbird Domestics’ website. The class will be capped at a dozen.

“Mockingbird Domestics and Genius Gin are two of my absolute favorite local businesses and I’m thrilled to be collaborating with them,” Sobotik says. “Our seasonal produce is so versatile and I can’t wait to share and explore their uses with the group. This workshop is going to be a lot of fun and a fantastic way to usher in the Texas Fall.”

The ice cream social commemorates when Mockingbird Domestics served Lick Honest Ice Creams during its opening party in 2012, but this collaboration marks the first time the two businesses have formally partnered together. Sobotik and Groener have created seasonal ice cream flavors in the past using Genius Gin that have been sold commercially and at Lick’s scoop shop locations, including Sweet Lemon, Gin and Juniper, Blushing Blueberry and Plum Jam and Gin Cake.

Participants of the workshop and the ice cream social are encouraged to tag @mbdomestics, @lickicecreams and @geniusgin in their posts.
